Kashmir Valley witness the first CME program in Radiological Technology; ISRT to lead the Technologists to the mainstream

Jawaharlal Nehru on his visit to Kashmir said like this- If there is a paradise on Earth, it is this. Kashmir is the most beautiful state of India whether it is landscape or people. ISRT in its efforts to co ordinate all Radiological Technologists from Kanyakumari to Kashmir through the academic activities and Professional development, reached the valley on 28 th July 2015.  The regional CME was conducted at Govt. Medical College (GMC), Srinagar, the premier Medical institution in the State of Kashmir which was founded in 1961. The program held in the recently renovated GMC auditorium emerged as the first ever CME for Radiographers and students in the state.
          The CME was inaugurated by Dr. Altaf, Radiation Oncologist in GMC in a function chaired by Dr. Sonaulla Kouchy, HoD of Radiation Oncology in GMC. Mr. Suresh Malayath, Gen secretary, ISRT, Mr. A. Selva Kumar, President, ISRT,  Prof. Panneer Selvam, ICRT Exam Controller,  Mr. Umar Akbar Dhar , President, J&K private diagnostic  Centres’ Association,  Mr. S. Sunil Kumar, ISRT Secretary- National Co ordination ,Mr.Rajeev Krishnan, ISRT PR secretary, Mr. Manjit Rai Bahal, ISRT NCR Regional Co ordinator and Commander. K J Daniel, Managing Editor ALARA addressed the gathering. Mr. Ashfaque lone welcomed the delegates and dignitaries and Mr. Altaf Hussain Malik , ISRT Regional Co ordinator in J&K delivered vote of thanks.  Later, ALARA magazine was introduced in Kashmir by handing over the July issue to Dr. Altaf by Prof.S. Panneerselvam.
         The scientific session contained around 10 presentations almost all by the resources persons of ISRT lead by Prof. S. Panneer Selvam . Topics from Conventional Radiography, CR- DR, Radiation Safety, Regulatory requirements, Planning of X Ray Room,  CT Scan, MRI Physics, Career Prospects in Radiology , Radiotherapy advancements, Radio Biology etc were discussed before a well attended delegates of around 150 from various part of Kashmir.   Some of the students and Radiographers of GMC, Srinagar were also in the list of speakers as a sign of changing trend in valley.  Mr. Irshad Indrabi, Tutor in Radiography in GMC and Commander K J Daniel chaired the academic sessions. To refresh between the academic brainstorming, traditional Kashmir itea(Kwawa)  and  a nice kashmiri lunch was served. Interestingly no delegation fee was levied from any Technologists, which seemed as the heartfelt hospitality of Kasmiri people.
      The program was organised by the ISRT J & K Chapter in association with department of Radiation Oncology, GMC Srinagar with the enthusiastic leadership of Mr. Altaf Hussain malik, The Regional Coordinator of ISRT in North West Frontier Region, which includes states J-K & Himachal Pradesh. Mr. Irshad Indrabi, Mr. Mohammed Shafeel,  Mr. Junaid Wani, Mr. Shakkeel Ahammed, Mr. Ashfaque Lone, Mr. Shaheel Ali Bhatt, Mr. Fayaz M Khan , Ms. Nahida Mehraj, Ms. Sarbari Saha were also contributed to make the first ever program as a remarkable one .
